This year’s Black History Programme spans a season of activities from October to December, and is designed to celebrate Hackney boroughs rich history of African and Caribbean culture.

Events and Activities Coming Up:

Black History poster map – From late October the council’s black history poster map highlights significant moments in history, and outlines key landmarks and legacies across Hackney. The poster will be available in print and online.

Hackney Library Service will also offer free guided historical walking tours with the map.

Stop and research: Police and the community in Hackney – Hackney Archives and social action project, ACCOUNT, explore the past, present and future of policing in Hackeny through a creative response workshop and further discussions. They’ll also show you how to explore, and look after, your own family archives.

WW1 to Windrush and beyond – Afrikan Heritage Writers pay homage to the Windrush generation with a free Zoom event.
